At least 15 people, including a 10-year-old girl, have been confirmed dead in a shooting incident near Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. The tragedy is being described as the deadliest mass shooting in the country in nearly three decades.

The shooting occurred on Sunday at around 6:47 p.m. local time at a park near Bondi Beach. According to police, one of the deceased is the gunman, while another suspected attacker is in critical condition. Dozens of people, including two police officers, were injured in the attack, and around 40 people are currently receiving treatment in hospitals.
Following reports of gunfire, New South Wales Police immediately launched a large-scale operation. In a post on social media platform X, police confirmed that a major security operation is ongoing in the Bondi Beach area and urged the public to avoid the vicinity and follow official instructions.
Video footage circulating on social media shows two armed individuals firing repeatedly toward the park from a bridge. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported that police are responding based on information related to an “active shooter.” Local media outlet Seven News showed scenes of hundreds of people fleeing the beach area after hearing gunshots.
Blood Shortage Amid Emergency Response
Meanwhile, hospitals in Sydney are facing a shortage of blood due to the large number of injured victims. Lifeblood Australia has issued an urgent appeal for O-negative blood donations and has called on Sydney residents to donate blood to support treatment efforts.
Due to the overwhelming response, Lifeblood reported temporary technical issues on its website.
Police stated that investigations into the incident are ongoing and that details regarding the deceased and injured may be updated as more information becomes available.
