Fans Defend Thamma as Director Aditya Sarpotdar Slams “Pointless” Comparisons

Fans of Thamma have been buzzing on social media ever since the film’s release, debating whether the Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer truly brings something fresh to the horror-comedy space. While some have praised its bold attempt to mix horror and humor, others have drawn comparisons with other recent vampire films — something director Aditya Sarpotdar believes is completely unnecessary.

Addressing the ongoing chatter, Aditya said, “Our film and those being compared are poles apart. Just because there’s a vampire in both doesn’t mean they belong in the same category. That’s a very shallow way of looking at cinema.” He added that Thamma has its own identity, tone, and world. “We’ve created our own universe, with characters and storytelling designed for our audience. So, comparisons don’t make sense at all.”

Despite mixed reviews, Thamma has managed to cross the ₹100 crore mark at the box office. Many fans have applauded Ayushmann Khurrana’s daring transformation into a vampire, while others felt the story lacked novelty and depth. Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Paresh Rawal also play key roles in the film.

Part of the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe (MHCU), Thamma was expected to follow in the footsteps of Stree and Bhediya, but critics have called it the weakest entry yet. Still, the film has sparked widespread discussion, with fans divided but engaged proving that Thamma, love it or not, has made its mark.
