The Nepali film Paran, which was released last week, has performed exceptionally well at the box office. According to data released by the Film Development Board on Monday, the movie has earned nearly NPR 35 million in just nine days. As of last Saturday, the film’s total gross collection reached NPR 37.1 million, with NPR 12 million earned on Saturday alone.
The board also released earnings data, up to Kartik 22, for the four films released during the Tihar festival Jerry on Top, Baristha Balram, Maijharo, and Soltini. Among them, Jerry on Top leads the list with a remarkable NPR 117.4 million, making it the highest-grossing Nepali film of the year, surpassing the previous record set by Woolen Sweater.
Similarly, Baristha Balram has collected over NPR 25.6 million, while Maijharo earned NPR 10.4 million. On the other hand, Soltini has struggled at the box office, with earnings of only NPR 2.9 million. Altogether, the four Tihar releases have generated over NPR 150 million in total revenue.
Meanwhile, the board has yet to publish box office figures for two recently released films Jari 2 and Man Binako Dhan — which hit theaters last Friday. Their earnings are expected to be made public next Monday. Since Dashain, the Film Development Board has been releasing weekly box office reports every Monday, a move that has significantly contributed to transparency in the Nepali film industry.
